Duties: The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) and Orphan Disease Center (ODC) are entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. Our R&D organization has a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core/Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP comparable work, and a large non-clinical program for animal testing under GLP including large NHP and rodent vivaria.

Our Animal Models Core is looking for a Lead Cage Wash Technician, that will ensure the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals.

As a Lead Cage Wash Technician, you will actively support GTP discovery and pre-clinical research programs by contributing to the care and upkeep of rodents through leading the daily operation of the cage wash staff. You will establish daily work assignments of the Cage Wash Technicians, equipment needs for barrier operation, cleaning procedures and overall physical operations for the cage wash facility.

As a Lead Cage Wash Technician, you will be performing basic husbandry duties such as cleaning/sanitizing caging and accessory equipment; sanitizing/decontaminating all work areas; performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on cage washers/autoclaves; prepare for animal arrivals (preparing cages with appropriate bedding, watering/feeding accessories, etc) observing animals,reporting abnormalities to Supervisor and/or Veterinarian; monitor and maintain inventory and stock for assigned area; and perform accurate data collection/reporting.

Qualifications: Position requires a level of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma and 3 years of experience in a lab animal facility, animal care experience or a High School diploma and AALAS certification at the ALAT level. College degree or coursework in Animal of Life Science is a plus.
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification preferred.
Must have animal handling experience and be dedicated the humane care of lab animals.
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping a must!
