The Information Security Instructional Designer will work and report as member of the Information Security Office (ISO) and will report to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Within ISO, the Information Security Instructional Designer will serve as a member of the Security Assurance and Compliance team.

Basic Functions:
The Information Security Instructional Designer is responsible for the development, implementation and management of a campus-wide security training and awareness strategy and program at UM. He/she will provide instructional design support for all awareness and training activities related to the Information Security goals established by the Information Security Office.

Specialized/Professional or Technical Duties:
•Develop communications, awareness and training activities and materials tailored to diverse audiences and security topics in a variety of electronic and physical media.
•Develop and deliver web-based and instructor-led audience-specific training for policies/standards, regulations, and technical security solution implementations.
•Produce clear, concise copy for brochures, websites and marketing materials.
•Work collaboratively with others to plan, design, develop and implement online, computer-based training and technology enhanced courses and learning materials that are:
-Functional, intuitive, and informative.
-Consistent with sound instructional design principles.
-Ensure that identified learning objectives are achieved.
•Responsible for development of instructional design processes and evaluations used in determining the effectiveness of the materials developed.
•Revise and improve awareness and training materials base on survey feedback and outcome reports.
•Create information security advisories and alerts.
•UMIT Security website development, enhancement and maintenance.
•Explore new technologies for potential application to enhance the learning experience.
•Security awareness information gathering.
•Other security tasks as needed.

Administrative Duties:
• Administrative duties will be to provide support for IT Security events throughout the year, administer questionnaires and surveys, and develop end user security training and awareness content for the IT Security website, e-Veritas, and other UMIT publications.
• Other duties will be assigned as needed in support of professional duties, special projects and goals of the Information Security Office.

BS or MA in a related field such as instructional design, communications, educational technology, or other related field.

•Minimum of two years’ experience in instructional design, technical writing, communications, teaching or related experience.
•Experience communicating technical information to non-technical and technical audiences.
•Excellent writing, verbal, and editing skills.
•Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs.
•Develop criteria, and metrics and assessment tools for evaluating learner’s performance.
•Submit progress and metrics reports to leadership.
•Demonstrated experience working on projects, training, designing process solutions and directly interacting with audiences.
•Organizational, analytical and independent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
•Able to prioritize and manage changing workloads and deadlines.
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a dedicated team member.
•Technology savvy with Microsoft productivity software, Adobe Creative Suite and other technologies and applications related to instructional design.

Preferred, but not Required Qualifications
•Technical communications experience.
•Graphic design skills.
•Self-starter and self-motivator.
•Familiarity with social networking and other Web 2.0 technologies.
