Job description

Applied Linguistics Specialist - 000728

The University of Richmond School of Law seeks to hire an Applied Linguistics Specialist for a non-tenure track, half-time, faculty term appointment. The appointment will run August 1, 2018 to May 15, 2019.

Each year, the University of Richmond School of Law enrolls 10-30 international students in its J.D. and LL.M. programs. These non-native speakers of English have a particular challenge because they must simultaneously learn the traditions of U.S. legal discourse while also refining their English skills. The role of the Applied Linguistics Specialist is to assist these students in developing more effective written and oral English language communications skills. The Applied Linguistics Specialist will work with law faculty to develop and co-teach curricular modules in Legal English as well as provide feedback on students written projects. The Applied Linguistics Specialist will also provide one-on-one and small group tutoring and will assist in assessing the English language ability of applicants.
