GENERAL SUMMARY Provides administrative oversight of the forensic team in the School of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts. The Director of Forensics recruits students in forensics for competitions during the academic year, supervises all student travel activities, plans the team travel budget, oversees assistant directors and graduate assistants, and coaches students in competition events.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Provides administrative oversight of the team by gathering and maintaining data, reporting activities, and attending meeting and conferences required for the team's eligibility to participate in the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League and the National Forensic Association.

Responds to inquiries from potential students about the forensic team.

Participates in recruiting events at tournaments sponsored by high school and community college leagues.

Chairs weekly meeting for students and coaches.

Schedules all travel to forensic competitions during the academic year.

Develops and distributes print and electronic media to keep faculty, alumni and team supporters abreast of team progress.

Serves as the representative for voting matters to the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League, the National Forensic Association, and other intercollegiate governing organizations for forensic competition.

Travels with students and coaches to local, regional, and national competitions.

Supports fundraising activities.

Teach courses in the Communication program.

Performs related duties, as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervision is exercised over Associate Directors and Graduate Teaching Assistants in forensics.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Supervision is received from the Department Head.QUALIFICATIONS Master of Arts or Master of Science in Communication, Performance Studies, or Theatre Arts is required.

Three years of experience working with a member school of the National Forensic Association is required. Previous experience providing administrative oversight and coordination of a Forensics Team is preferred.

Strong communication skills required.

Computer skills (Microsoft Office, social media, and Internet/web development) required.
