Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Director of its highly-regarded, undergraduate Liberal Arts Program. The next program director will oversee a program designed to broaden and enrich the study and understanding of human expression and interaction, taking full advantage of Northwestern’s world-class reputation in media education and NU-Q’s new, 515,000-square-foot, leading-edge media education center.

NU-Q is Northwestern University’s first international campus and is located in Education City, Doha, which was established in partnership with Qatar Foundation in 2008 along with six leading American universities. The director will work with a creative and committed team of administrative and faculty colleagues to realize a unique program, built upon the proven curriculum at Northwestern's home campus as well as the special talent and resources available at the Qatar campus.

The ideal candidate will be a senior or midcareer scholar in the humanities, with preference given to those from English or American literature, and literary scholarship in area studies. An earned PhD is required. Candidates should have a record of publication and scholarly accomplishment commensurate with rank and position. A record of successful administrative leadership at the level of department or program chair or equivalent is also required. This experience should include planning, budgeting, program development, assessment, recruitment and support of faculty, curriculum development and planning, and the ability to work with strong and dedicated staff to realize the highest quality academic offerings. The Director of the Liberal Arts Program will lead a faculty of fourteen and teach undergraduate courses on topics related to his or her area of expertise. Additional information about the position can be found at www.wittkieffer.com.

The successful candidate will appreciate a culturally diverse community of students, faculty, and staff comprised of women and men from Qatar and around the world and join faculty colleagues whose teaching experience is drawn from many of the world’s top academic institutions. In addition, the Director will work in collaboration with sister institutions in Education City that include Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Georgetown, Texas A&M, and Virginia Commonwealth to expand the depth and reach of program offerings.

NU-Q faculty-in-residence receive generous support for research and faculty development as well a highly competitive salary and a package of benefits and overseas allowances. Rank for these non-tenured positions is based upon qualifications and experience.

Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by August 31. Applicants should provide a professional resume, a letter of application, a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness and the names and contact information of five references. References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. These materials should be submitted electronically via email to NU-Q’s consultants Concetta M. Stewart, Ph.D., and Christine Pendleton at: NUQDirector-LA@wittkieffer.com. The consultants can be reached through the desk of Meagan Shimkus at 630-575-6725.

Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes including veterans and individuals with disabilities. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in Qatar.
