Senior Instructor, Case Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (CC Cancer Center: http://cancer.case.edu/) invites candidates to apply for a Senior Instructor faculty position. Applicants must hold a PhD, expertise in stem cell regeneration and bone marrow transplantation, and external research funding; specifically, K99/R00 award. We are interested in researchers focused on the cellular and signaling mechanisms mediating hematopoietic regeneration following bone marrow transplantation and myeloablative chemotherapy, and particularly those with experience in developing therapeutic strategies to promote tissue repair.
Specific experimental studies will require the ability to conduct bone marrow transplantation in mice, to isolate bone marrow stem cells from mice, to analyze bone marrow stem cells using FACS based methodology, and to conduct parallel studies involving isolation of human bone marrow stem cells, and to perform xeno-transplantation of human hematopoietic stem cells into immune deficient mice. The individual will be responsible for managing and designing individual experiments, reporting these in a consistent fashion and in a timely manner, managing issues of the scientific method including positive and negative controls, reproducibility, sample size estimate valuation, trends and troubleshooting, and refining techniques into standard operating procedures in the laboratory. Careful documentation and accountability is required. The individual will be responsible for writing and submitting manuscripts, managing a small team including a post-doctoral researcher and research assistant, and apply for relevant funding opportunities.
The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (Case CCC) based at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is a partnership organization supporting cancer-related research efforts at CWRU, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and Cleveland Clinic. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, the Case CCC serves the cancer research and clinical needs of an urban manufacturing and rural agricultural region containing over 4 million people in Northern Ohio.
The Case CCC provides a unique forum and academic network for cancer researchers across our community to accomplish more than they may individually. Through the Case CCC, our medical institutions are linked in a stronger and more unified effort to understand the causes and progression of cancer and to use that understanding to develop treatments and to reduce the likelihood that our population will develop cancer and suffer from its consequences. The Cancer Center advocates for cancer research support across the institutions; provides funding for promising pilot grants, shared resource development, training programs, and recruitments; and catalyzes multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary cancer research across institutions, emphasizing innovative discovery that will have an impact on cancer patients.
