The Academic Advising Center at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Academic Advisor to provide effective academic advising and educational assistance to a variety of student populations including First-Year Experience (FYE) students, students transferring to TU, students who are open majors, and students who are in academic difficulty and need additional support. The Academic Advisor serves as a resource for faculty, staff, students, and parents on issues relating to academic requirements and student success.
Provide appropriate and effective academic advising to an assigned caseload of freshmen and second-year students in one-to-one, small group, large group, and online formats; provide academic advising services to students on academic alert, academic warning, and academic probation; register freshmen students for their first semester of coursework at TU which includes a substantial time commitment during freshmen orientation in June and July; provide academic advising to students and support to academic departments during the Transfer Orientation Program in June, July, August, and January; serve as a liaison between the Academic Advising Center and at least two campus partner departments; and participate in professional development activities to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies related to academic advising.
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience advising students in a college or university setting. The selected candidate must have excellent skills in speaking, listening, and writing; ability to exercise sound professional judgment in relation to dealing with students and colleagues; fundamental knowledge of student development models; working knowledge of student services and programs in higher education; strong computer skills and knowledge and experience with student information systems and analytic software.
Ability to make presentations to large groups. Evidence of experience working with college students who are considered to be at-risk for retention and graduation.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
