This Education Abroad Advisor position is housed at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus. This is a full-time, 12-month position supporting the Global Engagement Office, UCCS. This position will assist with the advising of UCCS students interested in education abroad. This position will assist all UCCS students interested in education abroad and will provide information in a variety of formats (one-on-one meetings, classroom presentations, coordination of fairs, etc.), information on education abroad program options, visa process, travel orientation, vaccination requirements, travel preparation, insurance, course transfer process, and funding options. Also, this position will involve maintenance of the Global Engagement Office website, program and documentation updating, and participation reporting. This position will also work with incoming exchange students and assist in their advising (academic, immigration and cultural adjustment).

This position reports directly to the Director for Global Engagement.

Job Duties:

  • This position is responsible for all aspects of faculty-led programs including development, administration, and conducting workshops and orientation of faculty and students.
  • Develop and conduct pre-departure and returnee orientations for participants.
  • Serves as the first point of contact/advisor for students with regard to UCCS managed programs and exchanges abroad as well as with affiliated partner programs. This includes familiarity with promotional materials, curricular offerings, procedures, and other administrative aspects of education abroad at UCCS.
  • Serves as the primary advisor for all aspects of the advising and application process for study abroad.
  • Processes and tracks education abroad applications.
  • Communicates with students on all aspects of education abroad from initial interest through re-entry.
  • Maintains and updates the Global Education Office website.
  • Develop, publish, maintain documentation necessary to meet regulatory and university risk management requirements.
  • Prepares and maintains mandatory education abroad and exchange program documentation.
  • Organizes and coordinates projects and events that supports internationalization and study abroad.
  • Develops education abroad scholarship resources/sources.
  • Collaborates with schools, departments, colleges, faculty members, etc. regarding education abroad and exchange programs.
  • Participates in meetings and committee work related to education abroad aspects and management.
  • Promotes education abroad on-campus through education abroad events, resource fairs, social media and classroom presentations.
  • Represents the office and university at regional and national professional conferences.
  • Serves as a liaison to affiliated education abroad partners. This includes maintaining contact in regard to students abroad with particular needs/questions/concerns (as necessary), organizing program representative visits to campus, and arranging meetings with faculty (as needed).
  • Maintains the TerraDotta office management software.
  • Produces reports on education abroad activities and outward bound student mobility.
  • Supervises Education Abroad student assistants and volunteers.
  • Work with incoming exchange students and visiting scholars and assist in their advising (academic, immigration and cultural adjustment).
  • Ensures activities are in compliance with the industry's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices and trends in international education.
  • Occasionally works evenings and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the operation and development of the Global Engagement Office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Use office tools available on the desktop (e.g, Word, e-mail, PowerPoint and Excel) and web-based systems and the ability to learn new software systems.
  • Significant computer skills and software program knowledge including StudioAbroad and/or related.
  • Utilize appropriate database structures to organize and store data.
  • Database management experience.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, clerical, interpersonal and written skills.

  • Knowledge of higher education administrative practices and procedures, student records and international education systems.
  • Coaching concepts to motivate individuals or teams in learning and improving effectiveness
  • Knowledge of programs for learning English as a second language is helpful.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills as needed for innovative problem-solving.
  • The value of self-motivation and initiative to seek out work and drive to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.

Salary Range: $38,381.00 - $50,000.00

For the purposes of FLSA this position has been determined to be exempt from (not eligible for) overtime under FLSA.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of experience in an international environment.
  • One year of experience working in an international center and working knowledge of related procedures.
  • One year of experience advising university students and faculty in a post-secondary setting.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent Resident of the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in area related to international education, international affairs or international business.
  • Three years' experience working in an education abroad office and significant knowledge of related procedures and program development.
  • Two years' experience advising university students and faculty in a post-secondary setting.
  • Knowledge of visa application process for studying/working in the U.S. and other countries.
