JOB SUMMARY:

Clemson University, a public land-grant research university located in upstate South Carolina, invites applications for the position of Director of Student Financial Services within the Finance and Operations division. The Office of Student Financial Services is committed to offering students and authorized users support in meeting their financial obligations to the University while serving in an environment of equality, responsibility and dignity.

Job Purpose:

The Director of Student Financial Services (SFS) reports to the University Controller and leads the SFS Operations and Student Services and Cash and Treasury Services Teams by planning and directing all activities of Student Financial Services, which includes student fee billing and collections, and the University's e-commerce, cash management, merchant card and PCI compliance administration, and receipting efforts. Provides advice to students and parents on University policies.

Job Functions:

Student Financial Services:

Leads the Student Financial Services (SFS) Operations Team and SFS Student Services Team. Manages the administration and integrity of student account activity, including billing and collections of tuition and fees exceeding $360 million annually. Disburses and refunds student financial aid spanning multiple terms and semesters. Collaborates with other cross-functional areas regarding student tuition and fees, including the Budget Office, Chief Financial Officer, Student Affairs, Academic Students, Provost Office and the Graduate School.

Cash and Treasury Services:

Leads Cash and Treasury Services Team. Manages University-wide cash receipting process. Develops, administers, and promotes electronic commerce programs and support systems. Manages merchant card and banking relationships.

Policies:

Develops and manages policies, procedures, compliance, internal controls, and monitors programs relating to student tuition and fees, billing rules, refunding and e-commerce, cash receipting, and banking programs.

Database Management:

Works in conjunction with Clemson Computing and Information Technology and other financial management personnel, develops automated and non-automated database management procedures for processing all student charges through the student receivables system. Serves as Functional Team Leader and subject matter expert for the Student Financial Services team on multiyear system implementation projects.

Training:

Develops standardized training, documentation and communications for departments relating to student billing.

The salary range is $78,400.00 - $105,300.00.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses and professional experience directing professional accounting, auditing, banking, or finance employees.
  • A Master's degree with a focus in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • Experience with Banner, Touchnet/Market Place software platforms preferred
  • At least five (5) years of experience in higher education as a Bursar, University Finance Director or highly related profession
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Follow-through abilities; ability to work well under pressure
