I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff to the President the Director of Presidential Communications coordinates and manages communications on behalf of the Office of the President.

The Director of Presidential Communications drafts written and spoken communications for the university president and provides other communications support to the office, including managing the Office of the President website and social media presence.

Presidential Communications
Manages communications on behalf of the Office of the President.
Speeches: Writes speeches for president's public appearances, including introductions
Talking points: Writes and edits talking points for president's public appearances and high-level meetings
Correspondence: Writes and edits Office of the President correspondence, including emails
Briefings: Prepares and coordinates briefing materials for presidential meetings
Digital Communication: Originates, responds, and monitors all social media, the president's website, videos and photographs
Online contact form submissions - Receives, monitors, responds, and relays online submissions on behalf of the Office of the President
Quotes: Collaborates with university offices, External Relations and Development and Alumni Relations, to draft quotes to be attributed to the president
Advises on strategic opportunities for the president to communicate key messages or priorities to internal or external audiences.
Maintains a high level of accuracy and ensures all facts and details are correct.
Edits messages from other offices providing presidential messaging to ensure a unified voice and a high-level message.
Collaborates proactively and effectively with External Relations and other university offices to translate presidential messaging into compelling content for various platforms including stories, videos and social media.
Manages Office of the President website. Makes regular updates and collaborates with university offices on content and major updates.
Manages the president's social media presence. Manages president's Facebook page on a daily basis and advises on university-wide social media opportunities.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

A successful applicant will need to supply writing samples and/or a portfolio of written materials.

Aptitude for understanding complex issues and the ability to translate and simplify them for key audiences
Ability and willingness to meet the president's expectations for written style and content and to accept and respond to revisions and advice rapidly and effectively
Flexibility and adaptability, including a willingness to undertake both mundane and high-profile tasks with enthusiasm and energy
Ability to take initiative and work independently
Work discreetly on sensitive or delicate assignments, exercise sound editorial judgement
Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to keep track of and meet numerous deadlines; ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner and effectively re-prioritize responsibilities
High level of discretion and excellent judgment; ability to work with and manage confidential information
Ability to handle social media
