Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Poole College of Management at NC State University is home to approximately 3000 undergraduate students. The College offers majors in accounting, business administration and economics. The Office of Undergraduate Programs in the College provides student support services across six units: academic advising, admissions, global engagement, diversity and inclusion, internship and career development and curriculum planning. The academic advising unit provides support to our students via course planning, progress to degree support and a holistic advising approach that seeks to empower students to make thoughtful, intentional choices regarding their curricular and co-curricular involvement.

Essential Job Duties: The Senior Academic Advisor in the Poole College of Management at NC State University is a full-time, 12-month administrative position (EHRA) that reports directly to the Assistant Director of Academic Advising or the Assistant Director of Advising Programs. The Senior Academic Advisor will advise a large caseload of undergraduate students in the Poole College of Management regarding academic requirements (matriculation through graduation), course selection and registration, and other issues related to academic and student success (i.e. international study, student organizations, internships). The Senior Academic Advisor will teach two sections of our first-year course to undergraduate students each year and will support various efforts in the Office of Undergraduate Programs as needed (including orientation, welcome week, commencement, etc.). The Senior Academic Advisor will assume primary responsibility for multiple special projects within the academic advising unit. These responsibilities will include developing and implementing resources and programming for special populations of students within our college. The Senior Academic Advisor may also have supervisory responsibilities for a graduate assistant(s) and/or undergraduate student workers.

Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree in counseling, psychology, adult/higher education, business or related field.

Department Required Skills: -Minimum of three years of experience in academic advising at the college level - Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and presentation - Knowledge of principles, practices, and ethics of undergraduate advising - Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse array of personalities under pressure and deadlines - Maturity and ability to interact with students at varying developmental stages in a confidential environment - Appreciation for various perspectives, identities, backgrounds, ages and educational goals of current undergraduate students. - Comfort speaking to large groups - Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills - Ability to effectively manage large student caseloads

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Experience with successfully managing a large caseload of students - Experience teaching courses to incoming first-year, internal and external transfer students - Teaching experience - Previous advising experience in a college of business -Experience with advising software -Demonstration of progressive responsibility in advising roles -Both a broad and deep understanding, knowledge of, and experience with diverse populations of students. -Experience with supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students
