Educational and Experience Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology or related field. Two years of experience in academic advising or related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Serves as Assistant Academic Advisor to Athletic students and helps design programs relevant to students in their academic pursuits.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists the Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services in all areas of support service programs for student athletes and staff. Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding their academic programs and curriculum. Maintains student files updated throughout their academic careers. Provides retention advice to students on probation. Assists with resolving academic issues. Assists with coordinating orientation sessions for groups of incoming new students. Analyzes and processes degree plans and degree exceptions. Assists all student populations, regardless of the field of study. Helps with training new advisors. Meets with community contacts to promote University programs. Conducts comprehensive academic advising and support services to student athletes. Oversees academic progress of student athletes by monitoring continuing eligibility and degree progression. Compiles and maintains accurate detailed records and reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Establishes and maintains regular contact with students, parents, faculty, staff, other university departments, personnel, outside agencies and individuals as required. Interprets University policies governing the area of responsibility. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and University policies and procedures.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
