Assistant Athletic Trainer

The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for all phases of operation of the athletic training room and services, helping to cover 26 NCAA Division III varsity sport teams. The assistant athletic trainer develops, coordinates and administers a comprehensive sports medical program for College’s intercollegiate sport teams. The assistant athletic trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.
In their role, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will have the following responsibilities and duties:
Responsible for responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses within the college's comprehensive sports medicine program.
Provide athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home competitions.Handle distribution of athletic training coverage at away athletic events and championship tournaments, as necessary.
Work in conjunction with the coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.
Handle proper communication between the student-athlete and coaching staff on rehabilitation and recovery processes.
Confidential record keeping and medical documentation.
Accomplish other duties as assigned by director of athletics, including secondary duty within the athletic department.These duties could include game management, department award management, or professional development with the college’s intern coaching program.
The work consists of varied duties in the provision of athletic training services.The assistant athletic trainer could be required to make life changing emergency health decisions.Busy sports schedules contribute to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to provide athletic training services to student-athletes.Success in this position contributes to the overall health and fitness of student athletes.
The assistant athletic trainer position must make cognitive, urgent (at times) decisions in regards to a student-athlete’s health and safety.
Must have a bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of athletic training experience.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND/OR TRAINING
National Athletic Trainers’ Association certification
Knowledge of athletic training principles and practices.
Knowledge of injury management principles.
Knowledge of first-aid and CPR.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of insurance claims management principles.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in the management of student records.
Skill in instruction of student athletes.
Skill in the provision of athletic training services during sporting events.
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Skill in oral and written communication.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.
