The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a comprehensive urban university with a nationally recognized academic health center. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Experience in the Division of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Conduct and Outreach oversees a broad portfolio of responsibilities that support an institutional focus on student success and excellence in teaching, learning, and research. The director provides overall vision and leadership for the Office of Student Conduct and Office of Student Outreach, which entails administering, managing, and developing the non-academic conduct process, as well as comprehensively assessing and supporting students of concern. The director provides strategic leadership by creating a vision for the growth and development of the two departments, fosters a culture of excellence, and promotes visionary innovation, cutting-edge technology, and nationally-recognized best practices in both conduct and outreach. The director works closely with the Title IX Coordinator, Office of Legal Counsel, and the University Compliance Office to oversee the University’s compliance efforts; serves as an integral member of the inter-disciplinary, non-clinical, decision-making team for students of concern, CARE Team (Communicate. Assess. Refer. Educate); provides direction, vision, and mission to the UAB Food and Supply Pantry; and promotes collaboration and relationships with academic and administrative entities on campus, as well as business partners in the Birmingham community. The director oversees the daily operations of the two departments, including a budget of $450,000, and supervises four professional staff and two graduate interns.

A master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, college student personnel, or other relevant field, with five years of progressively responsible full-time related experience, is required. Previous experience in a collegiate student conduct and/or outreach environment, as well as experience with Title IX, including adjudication and/or investigation, is highly desired. The successful candidate should possess strong organizational abilities, the ability to build and support a cohesive team, and excellent written/oral communication skills. An understanding of student development and leadership theory and its impact on practice, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, and the ability to foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders are desirable. Experience working with Behavioral Intervention Teams for students of concern and experience with a wide variety of student conduct, to include bias-related incidents, registered student organization conduct (including Greek-letter organizations), and gender-based behavioral concerns, is preferred.
