Job description

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations the Director of Community and Alumni Engagement is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships that lead to an increase in contributed income and increased community engagement for Albany State University.

Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and three years of directly related professional experience; or a master's degree from an accredited institution and two years of directly related professional experience. 

Experience in a higher education setting is preferred. Supervisory or managerial experience at an institution of higher learning, non-profit or governmental agency is also preferred.   

Illustrative Examples of Work: The Director of Community and Alumni Engagement will work to establish university-wide partnerships with alumni, key organizations, agencies and employers. The position manages the creation and implementation of a community engagement plan that raises awareness in the local community of Albany State University and its initiatives. This position builds and cultivates partnerships between the University and nonprofit organizations, government and business entities to support the University's strategic initiatives. This position will work closely with several departments outside of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations to include, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and the Office of the President. 

The Office of Community Engagement as a one-stop shop for visitors (in person, by phone or email or virtually) seeking to establish partnerships with the University with regard to partnerships and cultivates mutually beneficial partnerships in the areas of civic engagement/volunteerism. This Office will serve as the customer service point of contact for ASU, proactively identifying, receiving and resolving concerns from external stakeholders. 

This individual will lead efforts to increase and deepen the engagement of a diverse alumni population. While also creating entry points for viable community engagement with the university. A major success factor for this role will be the increase in the opportunities to for alumni and the community to contribute time, talent and counsel; enriching the student experience for its diverse population. 

The Director of Community and Alumni Engagement also develops and manages the University's assessment of its community engagement and outreach efforts; develops and manages assessment and annual reporting for the Office of Community Engagement; identifies and applies for extramural funding to support initiatives relevant to the mission of the university. The Director of Community and Alumni Engagement will participate in the creation and the distribution of all media and marketing materials related the Division of Development and Alumni Relations. 

The Director of Community and Alumni Engagement will develop and manage a university Board of Visitors under the supervision of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.
