Job Description:

Manage, organize and supervise the functionality and safe operations in the Millard Art Center and Department of Visual Arts. This includes, but is not limited to, training and supervising students in the proper use of all general studio equipment, power equipment (sculpture studio) and potentially hazardous art materials, and maintaining equipment, the facility and supply inventory. The Studio Supervisor also serves an integral role as liaison between Physical Plant, safety committees, faculty, administration and students.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Students:
Train in workshops, the proper use of equipment and materials; supervise out-of-class and in-class (Sculpture, Senior Concentration Seminar) work in studios; train, hire and supervise work-study students; advise and assist with documentation and preparation of student work for exhibitions; option to teach one course per year contingent on qualifications; complete recommendations upon request; give tours for prospective students with an interest in studio art.

Studio Art Faculty:
Assist faculty with inventory of art materials and preparation of purchase requests; ordering and timely pick-up of materials locally; assist with materials receiving and distributing for architectural studio courses; assist in classes.

College Safety Committee:
Implement College Safety Plan in Millard Art Center
Department liaison Chemical Hygiene Committee

Physical Plant Personnel:
Prepare and submit work requests; coordinate completion of work requests; assist with general studio upkeep, organization and cleaning of classroom and storage spaces.

Administrative Assistant:
- Planning for and assist with studio art events; occasional advertisement I poster design, social media.
- Coordinate purchase, delivery, and pick-up of art materials with outside vendors.
- Supervise six sessions evening Life Drawing Sessions during the fall semester


Requirements:

Significant training in woodworking and use of tools. Familiarity with digital media and photography equipment (i.e. Cameras, lighting, camcorders, etc.). Familiarity with safety procedures in studio art; knowledge of basic first aid and CPR; willingness to learn and adapt to needs of studio courses in a liberal arts environment; must work well with students and be able to supervise evening hours (Life Drawing Sessions). Must be capable of moderate to heavy physical work (including receiving, relocating and distributing bulk orders I art materials and equipment I equipment assembly). Must be proficient in computer programs I design software (i.e., Adobe Design Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.). Previous teaching experience preferred. MFA candidate preferred.

This is a full time, Exempt level position - (11 month schedule)
