Job Summary

This position provides assistance in two important activities of Kiefer Library: New materials processing and digital archiving. Additionally, this position provides back-up support to the circulation desk, as needed.

Assisting with the processing of incoming books, DVDs, and other materials; unpacking, sorting and moving books to various work stations during the in-take/cataloging process; creating covers for books; properly stamping and barcoding new materials; typing spine labels and labeling materials; organizing books for addition to the collection/shelving.

Assisting with Kiefer Library digital archives, and assisting other Aims departments in digitizing critical department records and documents; photographing or scanning archival materials; managing and saving digital photographic records.

Assisting the circulation desk, as needed, by shelving and organizing library materials; participating in the inventory of library materials; checking library materials in and out;
modifying library records using the library circulation system; assisting with the cleaning and organizing of Learning Commons spaces, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Some familiarity with cameras, scanners and photographic/scanning software. Basic computer skills. Good communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience covering and processing library materials; previous experience with digitizing documents using photographic/scanning devices; data entry and file management experience.

Work Hours
Semester-long work schedules are designed to fit the student’s class schedule and Library staffing needs. Typically, students work several days a week in shifts of up to 5 hours/day.
