Primary Function of Organization Unit: Textiles Creative and Technology Services is the computing, learning technologies, and media services support mechanism for all faculty, staff, students and visitors for the renowned College of Textiles at NC State University. Services provided include Tier 1 and Tier 2 Helpdesk support, course development, web development, application packaging and support, and many other services that encompassed by information technology. The group supports over 1000 computing devices within the college including desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices. This group also supports the technology infrastructure for specialty machines and instruments. TCTS leads the College of Textiles in the effective use of cutting edge information technology to promote education, research and service to our state and beyond.
Essential Job Duties: The Technology Support Specialist is part of a team responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of the College of Textiles computing environment. Specifically, this position provides tier 1 through 3 user support as well as consulting and guidance to College of Textiles faculty and staff in the use of file systems, communications assets, networking infrastructure, and print systems. The Technology Support Specialist is also responsible for making sure all systems and software life-cycle management as well as providing back-up to staff who are responsible for other systems within the environment.
Department Required Skills: Experience in Powershell programming. Experience with Git / GitHub (or equivalent remote repository solution). Experience in a heterogeneous environment consisting of Windows, Linux, and Mac systems. Strong judgment, communication, diplomacy, collaboration, and organization skills needed to interact positively and communicate appropriately with faculty, staff and students. Working knowledge of ServiceNow help desk software (or a closely related software).
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Extensive knowledge of Active Directory and related information technology systems. Experience with System Center Configuration Manager. Programming experience. Knowledge of Windows application packaging and deployment strategies. Understanding of core networking and security principles. Ability to learn new skills quickly and independently. Ability to combine technical knowledge with an understanding of customer expectations to offer creative customer solutions to complex problems in a practical, timely and efficient manner.
