Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
PhD or foreign equivalent in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience with characterizations and simulations of colloidal and cellulose sciences.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in simulation of colloidal particles during different flow conditions. Experience in synchrotron X-ray scattering, optical techniques, and rheology. A strong record of publications.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Director, Deputy Director, consultants, faculty collaborators and industrial collaborators in Center for Integrated Electric Energy Systems (CIEES) to conduct research and testing, and ensuring that all studies are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The Postdoctoral Associate will also support the varying economic development activities launched by CIEES. The selected candidate will require excellent interpersonal and coordination skills. A strong candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. They will also have effective organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Characterizes and evaluates cellulose, nanocellulose and charged colloidal materials that are of interests to CIEES.
  • Maintains the existing and develops new nanoscale materials/components testing facilities in CIEES.
  • Works collaboratively with CIEES members, including faculty, students, engineers and scientists from Stony Brook University, Brookhaven National Laboratory and industry, as well as entrepreneurs and private foundations, to conduct research and testing with the aim to foster new economic development opportunities for the New York State.
    Communicates the results of research and testing to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, through high quality technical reports, peer reviewed journal articles, and formal and informal presentations.
  • Assists the Director to solicit project proposals annually to advance the mission of CIEES, and coordinates the review and evaluation processes of solicited project proposals.
  • Assists the development of external industrial, federal and state proposals to leverage the existing state funds.
  • Support for Center programs and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    This is a full time appointment. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
