Posting Summary:
The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center is currently seeking a Research Scientist to investigate the requirement of skeletal muscle mitophagy for exercise-mediated healthy aging and how age may increase the propensity to develop disease through impaired capacity for mitophagy in skeletal muscle. Knowledge of LC-MS/MS methodologies for the quantification of endogenous degradation of mitochondrial proteins via identification of low molecular weight peptides, as well as bioinformatics analysis will be expected. Experience with 2-photon FLIM microscopy and analysis for intravital and ex vivo imaging of skeletal muscle and 2-photon FLIM microscopy is preferred.

The incumbent will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CVRC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree by the start date as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to present experimental results.

This position is renewed on a yearly basis and is contingent upon available funding. Applicants must have a PhD in hand at time of hire and be eligible to work in the United States. Eligibility for NIH post-doctoral fellowship funding is helpful, but not mandatory.
