POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Director is a professional staff member dedicated to helping undergraduate, graduate and professional students meet community expectations and succeed at Case Western Reserve University. The assistant director investigates possible violations of the Student Code of Conduct and the Undergraduate Academic Integrity Policy. The assistant director will gather and consider information, determine responsibility for possible violations, provide training and guidance to stakeholders, and apply consistent outcomes for students. The position works to educate the university community on student policy compliance and expectations. The assistant director is a role model for students and represents the office and university in a positive and professional manner.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Investigate potential university policy violations by students related specifically to the university student code of conduct and undergraduate academic integrity policy. This includes reviewing initial reports, meeting with involved community members, organizing and assessing information to determine if a policy violation occurred, and helping students make good decisions. (30%)

2.       Maintain timely, detailed and accurate records for cases and other information about students. This includes hard copy documents as well as information stored in a secured database. (14%)

3.       Advise at least one student organization dedicated to academic integrity or student conduct. These students serve as members of hearing boards and provide education to the university community related to academic integrity and general conduct expectations. (14%)

4.       Ensure student completion of imposed conduct and academic integrity sanctions. Monitor completion of sanctions, follow up with students who fail to complete sanctions and work with other university offices to ensure students adequately complete assigned sanctions. (10%)

 

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Serve as a hearing officer or hearing panel chair to determine responsibility and sanctions for student conduct or academic integrity violations. Work with faculty, staff and student volunteers to facilitate hearing processes and interpret policies and procedures. (5%)

2.       Coordinate the selection, training, and evaluation of student, staff, and faculty volunteers. Develop and implement on-going training for volunteers and the university community. (5%)

3.       Educate students, parents, faculty, staff and other stakeholders on expectations related to the student code of conduct and undergraduate academic integrity policy. Develop content and maintain office web site and other online presence. (5%)

4.       Review, analyze and prepare data for weekly, monthly and semester reporting. (5%)

5.       Participate in on-going evaluation of policies, procedures and practices of the office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. Provide recommendations and feedback as appropriate. (3%)

6.       Assist with Title IX investigations and investigations related to other policies as needed. (3%)

7.       Be a visible and positive presence on campus representing the office (2%).

8.       Participate in division and university-wide committees (2%).

9.       Serve as a general resource for students to help them succeed at the university (1%).

10.   Perform other duties as assigned (1%).

 

CONTACTS

Department/Division: Daily contact with director, other assistant director and department administrator. Regular contact with other offices including Residence Life, Greek Life, University Health and Counseling, Office of Title IX and Dean of Students Office. Occasional contact with other offices throughout the Division of Student Affairs as part of investigations or to better support students.

University: Regular contact with office of Undergraduate Studies, office of General Counsel and University Police. Occasional contact with graduate and professional schools. Occasional contact with other faculty, staff and community members as part of investigations or to better support students.

External: Occasional contact with professional organizations for networking and professional development. Occasional contact with surrounding community to address student concerns.

Students: Daily contact with undergraduate, graduate and professional students regarding conduct and academic integrity issues, answering questions, providing guidance, and working with volunteers.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have any supervisory responsibility. Advises student organizations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 2 years of full-time experience working in higher education; preferably in student affairs. Prefer experience working directly with college students and experience with student conduct, academic integrity or other kinds of student accountability. Experience including FERPA, Title IX, marketing, facilitating trainings and database administration a plus.

Education: Master’s degree required. Higher education, student affairs or related field preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office environment. Frequent travel to other campus buildings. Occasional travel off campus.
