Duties and Responsibilities The Fairmont State University College of Education and Health & Human Performance, located in Fairmont, West Virginia, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in Teacher Education. Our faculty is committed to preparing effective and caring teachers who are knowledgeable in content, pedagogy and who demonstrate effective dispositions. We are seeking a candidate with experience using educational technology effectively while planning and delivering course content in both the undergraduate and graduate education programs, on campus and online. The position requires teaching elementary education, reading, and literacy courses and developing knowledge and skills related to effective teaching in these areas; guiding related field experiences; supervising clinical experiences; participating in service activities; and collaboration with faculty in assessment, recruitment and retention activities and curriculum planning. Candidates will advise students and work collaboratively with pre-service students/in-service education professionals in our public school partnerships. Other duties include serving on departmental, college, and university committees; and contributing meaningfully to departmental, college, campus and university-wide areas of service. The candidate must assist with the development and implementation of various aspects of program assessment and accreditation including, but not limited to, university assessment reports and annual reviews, CAEP or other teacher education accreditation processes, and the assessment of student work and learning outcomes. This requires data collection, data analysis, and preparation of reports. When appropriate, these duties will be performed in conjunction with other faculty, the associate dean and dean.Teach both online and face to face settings.Courses assigned will be core general education and reading classes.Recruit, advise and mentor students.Practice active scholarship.Assist in preparation of accreditation documents.

Minimum Required Education A doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or related field with a minimum of 18 hours graduate coursework (at master's and/or doctoral level) in reading/literacy. ABD will be considered.

Type and Amount of Experience Needed A minimum of three years of public school teaching experience.Teach both online and in face-to-face settings.

Preferred Qualifications - Evidence of integrating instructional technology- Evidence of establishing positive working relationships with colleagues and school personnel- Evidence of establishing school and community organization partnerships- Interest and experience in working with people of diverse backgrounds- Evidence of active scholarship

Special Conditions Note to ABD applicants: - A candidate hired into this position who is ABD, and who brings documented knowledge, skills and experiences specifically related to diversity and multicultural education will work within the following guidelines: -The candidate must be at the ABD stage of their doctoral education. - The candidate will be given a time period of up to two years after the date of the original contract to complete all doctoral requirements, including the dissertation. - The candidate, while ABD, will receive professional development funding to support professional development activities and travel to meet with the candidate's doctoral chair/committee. - After completion of the dissertation (no later than the end of the second year of appointment), the time on faculty as ABD may count toward the timeline for promotion to Associate Professor and tenure. The candidate will at that point be under contract as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. During the first two years, the candidate will have the designation of "Temporary Assistant Professor" while they are in the process of completing the dissertation and all doctoral requirements.
