Duties: The Department of Neurology is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Research Specialist A position. The prospective candidate will study new age-specific therapies for epilepsy, and the role of altered neuronal and glial function in epilepsy and its comorbidities. Specifically, she/he will assess cellular and regional alterations in synaptic proteins and epilepsy-related signaling pathways in mouse models and human tissue using immunohistochemistry and Western blot techniques. The applicant will also perform genotyping, drug treatments and behavioral testing in mice. In addition, the Research Specialist A will assist in the general maintenance of the lab and in ordering and tracking of lab supplies.
Position contingent upon funding.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

The successful candidate must have exceptional organization and communication skills, ability to multitask efficiently, work independently, collect data, and prepare lab reports. Experience with rodent handling and colony maintenance is preferred. This position will provide a strong research foundation for individuals interested in continuing their education in graduate or medical school.
