Duties: The Harrison Surgical Scholar program was established to provide clinical research experience for post-baccalaureate students who are interested in pursuing an academic career in medicine. This one year program introduces the Harrison Surgical Scholar to many aspects of clinical surgical research and may sometimes provide an opportunity to get involved in basic science research. Harrison Surgical Scholars work closely with an individual surgeon or a surgical research team on current and new research investigations. Activities include collecting clinical data to populate databases, performing literature searches in support of research initiatives, analyzing data, and assisting in the preparation of research findings for posters, abstracts and manuscripts. Students will learn about regulatory requirements associated with clinical research including submissions to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), screening and eligibility criteria requirements.

Scholar will have the opportunity to be involved in every part of the research process from study design, IRB submission and data collection to data analysis and manuscript publication. Scholar will be involved in submitting IRB proposals and editing manuscripts for peer reviewed medical journals. Expected to participate in and perform experiments, functional and data analysis, data presentation and filing.

This is a one-year position with a specified end date of 6/30/19.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 0-1 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Persons interested should have good writing and communication skills. Must be able to work as part of a team but also function with a high level of independence.
