Strategic Sourcing Manager

Job description

Under direction of the Chief Procurement Officer, the successful candidate will conduct comprehensive analysis of contracts, spending, usage and demand, and benchmark data to produce strategic sourcing business cases. The person will proactively research and analyze University-wide buying trends in assigned product or service families, identify and evaluate potential procurement opportunities, and develop responsive strategies. This position involves significant collaboration with Purchasing leadership and campus departments; quality written and oral communication skills are key requirements. They will develop commodity performance measurements against key indicators along with establish cost savings and cost avoidance targets. The person will undertake regular review of effectiveness of commodity strategies; s/he will develop and evaluate strategic sourcing strategies and action plans. They will collaborate regularly with University customers and other stakeholders to identify and ensure cost savings, operational efficiencies, and best-in-class contract opportunities. They will determine ways to maximize the utility of university technology systems to streamline and automate processes as well as analyze proposals and advise negotiation strategies and competitive bidding events. Determine level of compliance with established contractual obligations, end-user satisfaction, and service support networks/delivery and reputation, prepare reports as appropriate. Develop plans for service improvements and implement corrective actions as well as track savings and operational efficiencies achieved.

Physical Requirements

Position involves sitting/standing for long periods of time and regularly working with a computer, including utilizing repetitive motion with mouse and keyboard.


Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
40 hours per week


Proficiency with MS Office Standard Applications; advanced proficiency preferred for Excel, Access, etc. Experience preferred with data analysis and data visualization software such as Tableau, etc. Experience with an ERP system such as SAP preferred. Must have advanced reporting capabilities.
