Assistant/Associate Professor - Extension Beef Cattle

Job Summary: The appointment will be a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position in the Animal and Dairy Science Department, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Athens Campus. The individual is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally/internationally recognized beef cattle extension program emphasizing in, but not limited to, the areas of reproductive physiology, quantitative genetics, or beef production management. Extension activities include interaction with county agents and other scientists in developing a state-of-the-art information/technology transfer program for the Georgia Beef industry. The position will direct the Georgia Beef Challenge program. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in beef cattle management, with the potential to develop additional courses in their respective field. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Animal Science or closely related field. Preferred Qualifications: A thorough understanding of the U.S. beef cattle industry and current beef cattle practices, and familiarity in the areas of reproduction, genetics/breeding, and management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate that she/he can conduct a relevant beef extension program. The ability to publish in extension, scientific, and trade publications and the ability to secure extramural funding are expected. Frequent travel throughout the state of Georgia to conduct on-farm visits and make Extension presentations is a requirement of this position. Candidates must be willing to travel frequently to complete these essential job functions.
