The University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development is seeking a Sr. Research Assistant for the Teaching and Learning’s SEALED (Supporting Educators’ Academic Literacies and Enhanced Discourse) project. SEALED is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to support 120 secondary school teachers’ instruction for high-needs populations. The teachers will earn a Master’s degree in one of three areas (Education and Social Change, TESOL, or Special Education); the project incorporates a quasi-experimental study design to investigate Master’s in Education programs as a source of professional development for practicing teachers. The Sr. Research Assistant will assist with the scheduling of data collectors to video-record teaching observations for each participating teacher and ensure that all data are organized and stored securely. The number of hours required per week will vary, according to the data collection timeline; it is estimated that an average of 20 hours per week may be needed to complete the work. Initially, the project principal investigator (PI) and program manager will work with the Sr. Research Assistant to establish the data management system; once SEALED data collection begins, the data manager will work as needed to complete data collection and store data sources according to the project’s timeline. As findings emerge from the study, additional responsibilities include visualization of data and other project-related tasks related to the SEALED study. This is a temporary, grant-funded position dependent upon U.S. Department of Education project renewal through September 2020. The selected candidate will be expected to comply with University policies relating to research with human subjects, equality of opportunity, and data management.
