Position Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track instructor position in the School of Health Sciences. Under the direction of the Dean, the teaching assignment for the full-service week will be to teach Vocational Nursing classes, as well as participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. Although this position is initially at the Chino Campus, traveling to clinical sites and transfers to the Fontana or Rancho campuses may be possible per contract and need.


This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
	•	Teach assigned courses in a manner consistent with the department's standard and with the contents cited in the approved curriculum guides. Assignments may include evenings, weekends, and summer school.
	•	Perform professional tasks related to areas of assignment, particularly in student advisement, curriculum design and evaluation, program review, and in district/college/school committees and other assigned tasks as required, insuring the forward direction of the Vocational Nursing Program, as well as service benefiting the college, the community, and the profession.
	•	Participate in department and school meetings.
	•	Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction.


	•	Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND two (2) years' work experience as a registered nurse; OR
	•	Associate's degree from an accredited institution AND six (6) years' work experience as a registered nurse; OR
	•	The equivalent (District equivalency form must be completed at the time of application);AND
	•	Clear evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

An instructor in a vocational nursing program shall have or be currently attending a course offered by an accredited school in teaching; and shall meet the requirements of Subsection A or B, below:
A. Registered Nurse:
1. Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and
2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
3. Have a minimum of two years' experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years.
B. Licensed Vocational Nurse:
1. Hold a current California active license as a Vocational Nurse; and
2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
3. Have a minimum of two years' experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years.

Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by any or all of the following:
	•	Master's degree in nursing.
	•	Recent teaching experience with adult learners.
	•	Evidence of PALS and ACLS certification
	•	Evidence of ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, both orally and in writing.
	•	Evidence of effective contribution to collaborative team effort in an academic setting.
	•	Appreciation of and respect for students and their role and responsibility in the learning process.
	•	Expertise with the student populations included in the Chaffey College Equity Plan.
	•	Recent experience teaching courses in non-traditional formats such as online, hybrid, fast-track, accelerated, etc.
	•	Commitment to active involvement in the full range of professional and leadership roles expected of a community college professor.
	•	Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.

Additional Information

	•	Must complete a negative drug screen 10 panel plus ethanol screening result.
	•	Ability to secure a valid CPR card by date of employment.
	•	Approval by the Board of Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians within one month of hiring.
	•	Complete a background test in compliance with clinical agreements.
	•	Annual influenza vaccine

Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range is $63,000 (minimum qualifications) to $91,000 (doctorate) (Fall 2018 salary schedule). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.
