Position Description

Chaffey College is seeking applicants to provide not-for-credit instruction and program coordination in the Community Education Department's Certified Phlebotomy Technician Training Program. All applicants are expected to meet the California Department of Public Health Minimum Qualifications for instructors of this training (below). Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee employment or an interview.

Responsibilities

This role involves developing and delivering didactic and clinical instruction, supervising students in an instructional capacity in the clinical setting, ensuring all State instructional and record-keeping requirements are met, developing and monitoring clinical schedules, collaborating with and coordinating the work of supplemental instructional presenters, participating in student orientations, and arranging for State certification examinations. The ideal candidate will also meet all of the desirable qualifications below allowing the individual to serve as a program director with responsibilities related to: operation and administration of the program, ensuring quality of the instruction, ensuring instructional presenter qualifications and expectations of instructional quality are met, arranging for clinical site assignments, and ensuring continued program renewal including the preparation and submission of program renewal materials.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
&#9;•&#9;Licensed physician and surgeon; licensed physician assistant; registered nurse; person licensed under Chapter 3 of the California Business and Professions Code; or respiratory care practitioner with a minimum of 2 years experience in the previous 5 years; AND
&#9;•&#9;Must have passed a written examination in phlebotomy, administered by a certifying organization approved by the Department of Public Health pursuant to Section 1031.
OR
&#9;•&#9;California certified phlebotomy technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the previous 5 years or a phlebotomist with 3 years of experience in the previous 5 years and employed as a phlebotomy instructor.
AND
&#9;•&#9;Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
&#9;•&#9;Licensed physician and surgeon; or
&#9;•&#9;Licensed physician assistant; or
&#9;•&#9;Registered nurse; or
&#9;•&#9;Person licensed under Chapter 3 of the California Business and Professions Code.
&#9;•&#9;Experience developing and delivering instructional curriculum and materials related to phlebotomy.
&#9;•&#9;Experience providing clinical instruction and/or experience supervising clinical students.
&#9;•&#9;Supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory in a hospital setting.
&#9;•&#9;Ability to serve in a program director capacity exercising a responsibility for:
&#9;&#9702;&#9;Overall operation and administration of the phlebotomy training program; and
&#9;&#9702;&#9;Ensuring the quality of the technical, scientific and clinical instruction; and
&#9;&#9702;&#9;Ensuring that the person(s) providing instruction meets the qualifications of this section; and
&#9;&#9702;&#9;Ensuring that the person(s) providing instruction is competent and that his or her work performance is periodically evaluated, monitored and documented.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a temporary assignment as an hourly employee renewable at the discretion of the College. The selected applicant must be available to deliver classroom instruction, supervise clinical instruction, and coordinate aspects of the program according to timelines and schedules established by the College. Compensation is $60-65 per instructional hour, and compensation for program direction is established at the time of selection.
