Systems Specialist II, III - IT Operations
Position Category: Staff - Full-Time
Utah Valley University is seeking a Systems Specialist II or III for IT Operations. This position oversees and maintains the UVU IT service catalog, change management and incident management processes. Recommends process improvements to CAB and Operations on above processes adopting industry best practices in cooperation with IT staff. Leads the shared responsibility effort in IT and Operations for daily upkeep of the change management database and service catalog data including immediate 24 × 7 incident reporting, communications and coordination on known changes and unscheduled outages impacting students, faculty and staff.
This position is a career ladder position and will be placed at one of the following grade levels depending on qualifications:
Level II - Graduation from an accredited institution with an bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or any combination of education and experience totaling four years directly related to the Summary of Duties, including administering and maintaining enterprise-level IT systems.
Level III - Graduation from an accredited institution with an bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field plus one year of experience administering and maintaining enterprise-level IT systems or any combination of education and experience totaling five years in information technology three of which must be directly related to the Summary of Duties, including the administration and maintenance of enterprise-level IT systems.
Also requires successful completion of one current industry recognized certification within the first year of employment, that is directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of best practices in areas of Incident management, change management and service catalog operations.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and application network protocols, firewall management, operating system configuration, anti-virus software, and relational database(s).
- Knowledge of at least 2 of the following: Linux, Exchange, MySQL, Oracle, Apache, XML, Mac OS, Window OS, and Cisco IOS.
- Skills working in a customer service, team-oriented, and collaborative environment.
- Skills in troubleshooting hardware and software problems and researching technical issues.
- Skills in maintaining systems hardware including SCSI, RAID, and I/O topology.
- Ability to clearly present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Ability to work with and/or lead a team.
- Ability to apply organizational goals to daily work.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas and concepts to a non-technical audience.
Occasional bending/stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching and standing. Continual sitting, grasping, hearing, seeing and talking.
Frequent walking and fine hand manipulation in the use of computers.
Lifting 10- 25 pounds.

Pay Range: $38,062 - $55,739
