Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for providing a clean and healthy environment for the University Academic and Health Systems' buildings. This position supervises up to 20 employees by performing safe critical housekeeping tasks. The incumbent will maintain department expectations of providing high quality and consistent service by supervising, scheduling, and training the work force. The Custodial Services Supervisor maintains positive and professional relationships with facility occupants and staff, working in designated building throughout Grounds, comprised of academic and research buildings. They may be exposed to different contaminants, such as biohazard, blood borne pathogens, and bodily fluids. They work around equipment/machinery, stands on different surfaces, walks extensively, and climbs stairs. While typically assigned to the 5am-1:30pm shift, the position requires some flexibility to meet emergency needs during nights and weekends.
A high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum two years' experience in housekeeping or another service industry is required. Four or more years of experience in housekeeping, with experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity is preferred. Strong verbal, written, record keeping and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate information in a professional manner are essential. The ability to run cleaning equipment is preferred. Knowledge of supplies, training, scheduling and managing workers is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word are required.
