American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3700 graduate and undergraduate students. AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences; Health Sciences; and Education. The mission of the College is to transform student lives through career focused learning, with a strong foundation in the liberal arts, a commitment to serving the community, and a high level of involvement in the global economy.

Under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Maniaci, AIC has strengthened and grown in position and stature over the past 13 years. For the sixth year in a row, AIC has been named among the top 20 fastest growing colleges. AIC nearly doubled its enrollment over a 10-year span, 2005-2015. In addition, in 2016 the passage rate for nursing was 90%, the passage for occupational therapy was 100%, and the ultimate passage rate for physical therapy was 91%. The College has added many new programs at the graduate level and is seeking to continue to expand.

AIC's growth has expanded into its facilities plan by spending over $30 million in the past five years on enhancing all aspects of the campus. More specifically, over the past three years, the College has transitioned its library into a learning commons, modernized its dining commons, and is in the process of building a new health sciences facility and graduate housing complex.
The executive vice president for academic affairs (EVPAA) position offers a unique opportunity to join a collaborative community and help an institution continue to grow through the opportunity to identify, expand, and enhance programming. The College has created an institutional vision supported by key area visions and seeks the individual who wants to build upon the overall vision to further develop the academic enterprise. More specific responsibilities are listed below.


  • Adapt and articulate a successful academic vision for the academic enterprise, which includes programmatic, pedagogical and co-curricular perspectives.
  • Lead a vision-based academic planning process that increases the College's overall competitive position and ensures long-term stability.
  • Provide effective leadership for all areas of Academic Affairs, including the Office of Institutional Effectiveness; the School of Education; the School of Business, Arts and Sciences; the School of Health Sciences; and the Library.
  • Execute a collaborative leadership style to ensure the success of the College, including support and advocacy of the faculty.
  • Advance the academic priorities and goals of the College in a fiscally responsible manner, balancing expenses and revenues and managing growth with an emphasis on student learning and quality of instruction.
  • Maintain proactive and ongoing attention to factors influencing current and future accreditation status, including but not limited to all programmatic and institutional assessment, annual program reports, and periodic program review, ensuring instructional excellence and academic integrity.
  • Serve as the point of contact for external constituents on issues related to academic affairs, including the Board of Trustees, the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and other accrediting bodies (e.g., IACBE, CCNE, ACOTE and CAPTE).
  • Provide advisory recommendations to the president on academic appointments, tenure and promotion matters, and ensure that such processes comply with the terms of the faculty handbook.
  • Oversee the collaboration of academic deans, faculty and the registrar to ensure the College is following best academic policies and practices.
  • Establish priorities and oversee plans for academic and co-curricular program development and faculty recruitment, evaluation and development.
  • Be responsible for the integrity of the academic process.
  • Other assignments by the president.

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • Significant experience in an office of academic affairs.
  • Demonstrated progression of senior academic administrative positions.
  • Successful record of leadership and accomplishment in strategic planning, faculty development, shared governance, human resources administration, curriculum management and administration, and encouraging excellence and innovation in teaching through the use of technology, research and creative activities.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and implement new programming and academic partnerships with external academic entities.
  • Proven success developing and managing complex budgets.
  • Ability to gather information, sort through the information, make difficult decisions based on this information, and communicate the decision(s) and reasoning effectively and timely.
  • Knowledge and understanding of alternative academic program delivery models.
  • As a key member of the president's leadership team, demonstrates excellent communication, execution, and collaboration skills in close partnership with the president.
  • Proven ability to pursue external funding for support of academic affairs programming in collaboration with institutional advancement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to formulate and articulate sound academic policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative and personnel issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Ability to competently and objectively advocate and advise the president on academic matters.
  • Ability to adeptly manage staff and multiple projects.

The Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs is a full-time, benefit eligible position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, flexible to the needs of the department. Occasional nights and weekends required.
