Northern Arizona University, a member of the Big Sky Conference, NCAA Division I, is seeking a full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Under the direct supervision of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, he or she will:

  • Supervise and administer the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes of all sports, including football
  • Supervise the graduate assistants, as assigned, and help develop programs for their sports
  • Work closely with the Sports Medicine Department in planning and implementing rehab programs for student-athletes
  • Schedule and provide supervision of the weight room and conditioning areas to provide the highest possible success for student-athletes.
  • Maintain a safe and effective weight room with a focus on the health and welfare of the student athlete.
  • Will travel with teams to away and home competitions
  • Administer the program in compliance with all University and NCAA rules and fulfill all duties assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Minimum Qualifications  

  • At least four years of experience training a broad and diverse population of collegiate athletes
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • A CSCS or SCCC Certification.
  • CPR and first aid certified
  • Demonstrate proficiency with all Olympic lifts and variations

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Greater than four years of experience as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach
  • Master's degree
  • Experience with track and field, swimming and diving, golf and football
  • Nutritional Education

Knowledge Skills and Abilities  

  • Ability to work with large groups from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Year round periodized programs for lifting, agility, and conditioning
  • Must have a working knowledge of conditioning, speed, and agility training.
  • Must have a working knowledge of modern periodization models

Background Information  

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position.  Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following:  a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report.  The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses.  The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

Salary  

Commensurate with experience.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

FLSA Status  

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
