The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites application for a full-time faculty position in Anatomy at the level of Senior Instructor. The successful applicant should have a Ph.D., D.O., M.D., or equivalent degree and substantial experience teaching a dissection-based human anatomy course. Applicants without such a terminal degree may be considered on the basis of extensive teaching experience.

The position's teaching responsibilities include participating in team-taught gross anatomy courses (including cadaver dissection) for medical students, dental students, and graduate students in master's degree programs. Experience in human dissection and laboratory-based small group teaching is required. The successful applicant also will be expected to contribute to other course-related activities across the three teaching units including but not limited to review sessions, tutoring, prosection demonstrations, and examinations. Experience in and a willingness to participate in classroom teaching (lecture and/or interactive formats) is desirable, but not required.

In addition, the position's responsibilities include reviewing all applications to the MS in Modern Human Anatomy program, as well as providing guidance and support to the program admissions committee. The ideal applicant will also serve as an advisor and career guide for MS students seeking admission to various health profession programs during or beyond graduation, such as medical (allopathic and osteopathic) and dental schools, physician assistant, physical therapy, nursing and/or anatomy doctoral programs. Desirable candidates should have some counseling experience, as well as familiarity with the medical school admissions process.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must have a PhD, DO, or MD in Anatomy or a related field as well as two or more years' experience teaching human dissection and laboratory-based small group human anatomy course(s).

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the technical degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing counseling and guidance to students

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
