Job Description: POSITION: REFERENCE/TECHNICAL SERVICES FACULTY, LIBRARIAN STATUS: Full time Tenure track DEPARTMENT: Library DIVISION: Academic Affairs CLASSIFICATION: Exempt UNION: Faculty REPORTS TO: Department Chair PLACEMENT: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Thirty-five hours of work a week constitute a standard load. Work schedule may include late afternoon, evening, or Saturday hours and hours at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide reference and information services for students, staff, and faculty. 2. Provide bibliographic instruction, information literacy and instructional service support. 3. Assist in the management of the Integrated Library Systems and interlibrary loan. 4. Assist in the management of the online electronic resources including databases and e-resources. 5. Assist with the development of library and information programs and services. 6. Assist in the publication of the library webpage, social media outlets, and information resource guides. 7. Act as a liaison to assigned departments. 8. Provide advice and technical support to faculty and staff in using learning resources technology. 9. Assist in collection development activities in all forms of library information resources. 10. Providing original and copy cataloging for specialized materials, including ephemera and rare books. 11. Oversee enhancing, upgrading and editing of existing MARC records using RDA, DD Classification, LCSH, MARC21 format, MarcEdit, OCLC, Library of Congress and the library's automated system. 12. Serve as the primary coordinator of original and copy cataloging operations for the library's dynamic physical and electronic collections. 13. Maintain current awareness of professional practice and commitment to personal career development activities. 14. Support all functional service areas of the library. 15. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees. 16. Coordinate with other librarians and departments in the development of the college's archives. 17. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. 18. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission. 19. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. An MLS/MLIS/MSI degree in library science/information studies from an ALA accredited institution. 2. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development. 3. Experience in a public services setting with providing information literacy instruction. 4. Expertise in appropriate library technologies with ability to use and manage applicable software. 5. Expertise in current library cataloging and classification practices including RDA, DD Classification, LCSH, MARC21 format, OCLC, Library of Congress PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Experience at the community college or university level, particularly reference and instructional experience. May include experience in special, school, and public librarianship 2. Familiarity with software including library integrated systems, electronic resources, social networking technology, virtual resource management, database administration, and other emerging technologies. 3. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. PHYSICAL DEMANDS 1. Normal classroom and library physical demands. WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
