Assistant Dean, Development-CLA
The Assistant Dean for Development for the College of Liberal Arts, reporting to and working in collaboration with the Dean of the College and the Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts (Institutional Advancement), will lead the effort to secure philanthropic investments that support the priorities of the Dean of the College. The Assistant Dean will create and implement a fundraising strategy that mobilizes and inspires a unit-based fundraising team and leverages centrally-based resources. In addition, the Assistant Dean will manage an individual donor portfolio of 100-125 prospects with a capacity for gifts of $100,000 and higher. The Assistant Dean will serve on the Dean's administrative leadership team and will provide input in the creation of philanthropic priorities. The individual will manage the College's advisory board in consultation with the Dean and the Associate Vice President. This person must be an energetic, organized and enthusiastic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and working collaboratively and strategically, with a strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least five to seven years of higher/education fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing six to seven figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Create and implement an advancement strategy for the College of Liberal Arts in consultation with the Dean, the Dean's team, the Associate Vice President, and other vital partners. Elements will include: securing principal gifts, major gifts, and leadership annual gifts; increasing alumni participation through collaboration with Annual Fund and Alumni Relations; and planning for the Board of Visitors, the Dean's advisory group.
*Inspire and manage a team of three professionals
*Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospective donors with the capacity to primarily make commitments of a minimum of $100,000 in support of Temple University
*Collaborate with colleagues from across Institutional Advancement when working together to cultivate, solicit or steward a prospect; refer prospects to other gift officers when appropriate to maximize support to the university
*Effectively articulate the mission and vision of the College of Liberal Arts as well as Temple University to increase private support
*Leverage resources available both centrally and within the schools and units to engage prospective or current donors, including: fundraising staff and faculty at other schools/colleges/units, the central service operations of regional gifts, annual giving, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, prospect research, data analytics, gift processing and records, and alumni relations
*Model appropriate and regular use of advancement technologies
*Collaborate with alumni relations to co-manage the Liberal Arts Alumni Board
*Metrics will include portfolio management, annual fundraising goals, and monthly meeting goals.
