The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for an Arabic Lecturer beginning fall 2018 with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2018. This position is a one-year appointment. The teaching load will be three courses in the fall and three courses in the spring.
Required Qualifications: Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic with strong competence in FusHa (Modern Standard Arabic), and fluency in English. An MA degree is required in Applied Linguistics and Foreign Language Teaching or a relevant field. Applicants on the ABD status are welcome to apply.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability and interest in teaching beginning through advanced level courses in Arabic; and experience with teaching FusHa Arabic at the postsecondary level using a proficiency-based, communicative methodology.
