Position Summary

The Department of Accounting & Finance in the Bryan School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for up to two tenure-track positions in Accounting subject to budget approval. The position(s) will commence on August 1, 2018, at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (with tenure). We will consider candidates in all areas.

One of six academic departments of the Bryan School of Business, the Department of Accounting & Finance consists of 15 full-time faculty members and offers B.S. degrees in both Accounting and Finance and a M.S. in Accounting. The Department also services the undergraduate business core and the MBA program. Our Accounting faculty members are active in research and have published in such journals as The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Organizations and Society, Accounting Horizons, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and Journal of Management Accounting Research. Among other databases, the School has subscriptions to CRSP and COMPUSTAT, as well as to the WRDS platform.

The Bryan School has over 3,800 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 100 full- and part-time faculty members housed in six departments and programs. Accredited in both business and accounting by AACSB, the Bryan School is the recipient of many rankings, honors and accolades. The faculty and students are both impressive. For example, in 2016 the faculty members averaged 2.21 peer reviewed journal articles, published eight books, and occupied 63 editorial positions with journals (editor, associate editor, guest editor, or editorial board member). Students have traditionally performed well in national and regional competitions. The School takes great pride in being the most diverse business school in the UNC system. UNCG was one of the three original institutions in the University of North Carolina system (Chapel Hill and NC State were the others). Classified as a high research activity university, UNCG is also committed to high quality teaching to its more than 19,500 students in seven colleges and schools. Greensboro is the third largest city in NC with approximately 270,000 people in a MSA of some 1.6 million. Ideally located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, Greensboro is only a few hours from either beach or mountain. The city boasts a rapidly developing fine arts center, child friendly venues and a multitude of outdoor amenities. With seven higher education institutions in the immediate area, a large industrial base, and proximity to the Research Triangle, it is an attractive location for dual career families.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD/DBA degree with a specialization in the given area from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited business school. ABDs who are assured of completion by August 1, 2018, may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Related business and teaching experience and evidence of successful refereed journal scholarship are preferred (required for associate professor candidates). The ability to tie one's teaching and research to key elements of our mission (problem solving, innovation, globalization, sustainability, and ethics) and an interest in student consulting projects will be considered positively.
