General Summary of Position:

The University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks an innovative, experienced leader to serve as its Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management will be responsible to provide leadership, vision, and strategy, for the creation, implementation, and evaluation of a multi-year, enrollment management plan for UMass Lowell's on-campus, undergraduate programs. The Vice Provost will work collaboratively with senior leadership within and outside of Academic Affairs to ensure the university's success in executing this plan and will represent UMass Lowell enrollment management at the University of Massachusetts system level.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of contemporary best practices in enrollment management with expertise in financial aid, undergraduate admissions, the on-boarding of new students, data analysis, and the national trends impacting higher education. Further, the candidate will possess a track record of building, empowering, and leading highly successful teams in an integrated enrollment management setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership by promoting communication, data sharing and integration of programs among freshmen and transfer admissions, financial aid, orientation, and the management of the events, travel, activities, and resources that support these operations.  
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Office of Admissions to develop effective recruitment and admissions strategies that will continue to yield ethnically diverse, gender balanced, and academically prepared student cohorts with an annually increasing number who are out of state and international students.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Office of Financial Aid to ensure operational alignment with institutional enrollment goals in the effective use of all federal, state, and institutional aid, compliance with federal, state, university, and NCAA regulations, optimization of merit and need-based aid, and the expansion of the financial planning and wellness support for students and families.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Office of Orientation, supporting and appropriately resourcing the critical on-boarding activities including campus tours, admissions events, and new student orientation.
  • Engage in an analytical, empirical, data-driven approach to problem solving and decision-making. Facilitate a culture of evidence and accountability in enrollment management and student services.
  • With support from a dedicated embedded analyst, and in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Analysis & Data Management, identify enrollment trends and develop accurate projections of future demand. Using this analysis and trend information, recommend strategies for recruitment, admission and financial aid. Generate comprehensive, user-friendly enrollment reports for distribution to stakeholders throughout the campus.
  • Actively participate as a member of the provost’s leadership team and the chancellor’s senior cabinet. 
  • Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • An earned master’s in a relevant discipline and demonstrated experience in data management, analysis, and internal/external reporting.
  • Ten years of experience, with at least five in a supervisory role.  
  • Demonstrated record of successfully leading a service-oriented office that interacts daily with internal and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated track record of effectively managing professional staff and financial resources.
  • Experience in the knowledge and use of technology specific to enrollment management, admissions, recruitment, financial aid and statistical analysis, including an enterprise implementation of and experience with the broad usage of CRMs (e.g., Salesforce) is particularly desirable.
  • Proven marketing experience with the ability to articulate strategies to successfully recruit and yield applicants.

  • Ability to work independently, with minimum oversight, attend to multiple projects simultaneously, and to deliver accurate results and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the need to strategically manage the recruitment, admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations regarding the administration of financial aid.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities; move projects efficiently from a vision point to reality.
