This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The San Diego State University Library is seeking a motivated, creative, and service-oriented Web Designer with the skills required to design, develop, and maintain responsive, consistent, intuitive, and easy to use websites. The incumbent should have three or more years of full time professional work experience designing websites. This position supports several websites and is responsible for ensuring sites comply with accessibility standards.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,198 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,173 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
The ideal candidate will possess skills in both web design and graphics design; have a strong understanding of graphic design elements, an understanding of web technology, and the ability to work collaboratively; and the ability to develop and design web sites that engages, attracts and informs.
Responsive design concepts using HTML and CSS.
Experience using open source products Drupal and WordPress.
Experience developing web based applications.
At least three years of experience working with front-end development programming.
At least three years of current professional work experience (within the last three years) in web design.
At least three years of current web design skills (within the last three years) using HTML and CSS.
At least two years professional experience with web design and graphics design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong graphics design skills.
Ability to work with HTML, CSS, JS front end frameworks, such as Bootstrap for developing responsive websites.
Experience with Drupal or WordPress and the ability to install and modify themes.
Experience using version control systems such as Git or GitHub.
Knowledge and experience with PHP and SQL.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
