Communications Specialist and Assistant to the VP for Research

Performs a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the day-to-day operations of a function, program, and/or dept; assists in program planning & development; interpret, monitor, & analyze information regarding operating policies & procedures; administers budgets; & coordinate academic and/or staff personnel matters. Performs professional administrative support duties; not a secretarial position.

This position will serve as communications specialist for Office of Research with such responsibilities as update of websites and social media affiliated with the Office of Research, create and publish a quarterly newsletter, issue office announcements to KSU Inform, coordinate press releases with KSU media relations, and maintain updates/revisions to Policy and Procedure manuals. The person in this position will assist in a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of special events and the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research, and will demonstrate broad working knowledge of organization operations and policy with high level of experience, discretion, and technical skills.

This position will interact with the research administration and staff at all levels in the Office of Research, and interface with faculty as needed (news stories, program announcements). The direct supervisor for the position is the Vice President for Research. This position will advise and counsel the VP for Research and other Office of Research staff as needed.

Minimum Hiring Salary: $18.51

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience OR a High School diploma and 3 years of college coursework and 7 years of related experience OR High School diploma and 10 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in professional writing and written communication, organizational skills including ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines, proficiency with web-content systems such as Omni Update, proficiency with newsletter software such as Microsoft Publisher or Constant Contact, proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Power Point and Word, proficient use of social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter, ability to learn new programs that are part of KSU operations and as applies to this position.

Demonstrated experience with professional writing, web-design, and newsletter production.
