Position Summary

The qualified candidate would be responsible for coordinating all aspects of dataflow for a diverse range of projects, maintaining general laboratory operations, reporting about project outcomes and status, and supervising and training research support personnel. Order, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and technology necessary to support research objectives, including audio/video/touch data input/export devices and supporting software; ensure proper functioning and compliance with written specifications. Develop and implement protocols for commonly-used research methods. Oversee general lab needs; evaluate and order materials, supplies and equipment as needed. Design and maintain research related website. Organize and lead regular meetings with principal investigator, research staff, and students. Prepare regular reports on project outcomes, progress, and needs; effectively manage communication among diverse personnel, including collaborators at other institutions. Train staff in the use of equipment, technology, and software required to support research objectives. Implement procedures and training approaches to ensure compliance with established research protocols specific to this lab. Supervise the workflow and training of student employees. Monitor compliance with IRB and Human Subjects research standards.Coordinate and participate in research on biological visualizations, including laboratory, field, and classroom operations in order to meet research goals. Coordinate and manage all aspects of data flow from video, physical, and audio sources through de-identification, transcription, analysis, and archival. Maintain existing database in SQL; contribute additional development to database design to meet the needs of projects as they evolve. Record and compile accurate records of lab activities; develop and implement procedures for ensuring quality and reliability in data management. Provide guidance and training for undergraduates on independent research projects and experiments. This is a limited term position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in biology, life sciences or a related science field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in biology, life science or related field; experience in database, spreadsheet, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/ certification and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications

Strong foundational knowledge of basic biology; interest and/or experience in cognitive or learning sciences and/or data science methods; minimum of two years experience in similar or related laboratory setting; substantial experience with data collection, management, and statistical analyses – particularly general and hierarchical linear modeling; fluency with Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, HTML, Zotero; minimum 1 year experience programming in SQL, R, Python; experience and/or training in the use of StudioCode, V-note, or other software packages that enable video coding, analysis, and data visualization; working knowledge and/or experience with qualitative and mixed methods approaches to data analysis, coding procedures, and network analytic techniques; exceptional verbal and written skills and ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences; web authoring experience, including web design skills; exceptional teamwork and collaborative skills a plus.
