Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Assistant Director supervises the professional Advisors of the Biology, Chemistry, and Earth and Environmental Science Departmental majors within the College of Science and Technology's Center for Academic Advising. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and leading the academic advising initiatives for this discipline group, mentoring advisors, and offering consultation on complex individual student issues. Establishes and maintains a network of collaborative relationships with professional organizations, as well as with University colleagues, with respect to academic advisement and student retention programs, initiatives, and issues. The position will help apprise decisions on advising services geared to achieving, maintaining or improving student success and retention. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Master's degree and at least three (3) years of directly related professional experience. At least two (2) years of advising experience in a higher education academic setting. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Demonstrated project management experience. Experience with automated student information systems. Demonstrated computer software experience including: Microsoft Office suite with emphasis on excel, database analysis, and internet forms (Google Docs). Experience with training design and delivery.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Knowledge of a variety of higher education policies and regulations as it affects student enrollment, retention, and graduation.

*Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead various advising staff functions.

*Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

*Demonstrated ability to follow policy and procedures and explain them to students in a clear, concise manner.

*Demonstrated ability to present to groups of various sizes.

*Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a high volume, fast paced environment.

*Ability to work nights and/or weekends, if necessary.

Preferred:

*Knowledge in the science and technology fields.

*Experience with academic advising assessment.
