Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

This position will conduct complex quantitative and qualitative data gathering processes on selected Coastal Reserves according to previously adapted and outlined survey procedures and techniques utilized in a specific research project. This position is responsible for independently carrying out procedures, recording results, and organizing raw data. Work includes the exercise of independent judgment, extensive interaction with the public, reading literature relating to possible procedures, and adapting/changing procedures to suit the data gathering needs. The period of work will be 24 days, 5 hours per day, in the field between May 28 to September 3, 2018. Survey dates will vary each week, but will typically involve weekday, weekends, and holidays. Surveying will be performed outside and typically last approximately 5 hours. Travel in own vehicle to the Coastal Reserves will be required. Employee will typically work at one of six reserves (Currituck Banks, Kitty Hawk Woods, Rachel Carson, Masonboro Island, Zeke’s Island, or Bird Island).

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent public contact skills
Excellent organizational skills
Extremely accurate in recording both quantitative and qualitative data
Available to perform duties on short notice
Able to perform duties independently and unsupervised
Reliable, timely, and responsible
Able to work long hours in beachfront settings in variable weather
Provide own transportation

Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience:

Red Cross First Aid and CPR certified

Work Hours: 10:00AM to 3:00PM

Work Days: 24 days between May 28 to September 3, 2018

Hours Per Week: varies

Recruitment Range: $10/hour
