Assistant Professor & Extension Specialist

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences educates students in agriculture and youth, family, and community sciences, finds solutions to problems, and extends knowledge to create healthy communities for youth and families. We do this through academic programs in agricultural and extension education and youth, family, and community sciences that are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Essential Job Duties: This is a 12-month tenure track position in the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences at North Carolina State University. This position carries a 65% effort in Teaching and 35% effort in Extension. Essential job duties include: * Develop new and teach current graduate level courses in Extension Education and Community Engagement. * Advise students in departmental degree programs. * Work with county extension agents, state extension staff, and stakeholders on extension education and community programming efforts. * Collaborate with extension education programs at the college and university level. * Conduct research related to Extension Education and Community Engagement. * Secure external funding for research and development activities. * Serve on departmental, College, and University committees, as appropriate. * Service to appropriate professional organizations. Minimum Education/Experience: * Earned doctorate degree in Extension Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates who are very close to completion of their PhD will be considered at the Instructor rank consistent with appointment terms as specified in the Academic Tenure Policy.
Department Required Skills: * Effective oral and written communication skills for graduate students and lay and professional audiences. * Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, team building, problem-solving ability, networking skills, and ability to work with diverse groups.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Minimum of 3 years of successful professional experience and demonstration of an understanding of the land grant university mission. * Demonstrated grant writing skills, and familiarity with electronic media and distance-education.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
