The Director of Online Faculty Development will serve as the campus leader for advancing online teaching and learning at UWG and use a variety of online pedagogical and andragogical approaches and technologies to support academic excellence and online learning. The Director of the UWG Online Faculty Development Center must be able to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that demands high quality, creativity, and consistency. The Director must be able to lead campus-wide discussions about managing online enrollment and enhancing online student-centered approaches and service. This position is responsible for helping create and to operationalize the strategic mission and vision for the FDC and for continued online development at UWG. The director must be skilled at collecting data and continually assessing outcomes, in order to meet institutional goals, market demands, and the goals of Complete College Georgia. The Director is also responsible for the management and supervision of an instructional design team, student workers, and other staff as well as support services and training programs. The Director is responsible for closely coordinating with the Center for Teaching and Learning for shared training for faculty and greater outreach to departments and colleges as well as the Center for Adults Learners & Veterans and other external stakeholders. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of both current practices and emerging trends in the field of instructional technology, design, and distance learning is required. Must be QM trained with a background in managing quality assurance initiatives for online programs at the university level. Must be able to conduct training in online/blended learning, extensive research into best practices, self-study, and innovative approaches to educational delivery. Must be able to to pitch, conceptualize, develop business models, and help in the planning for new non-credit and for-credit online programs. Director will design and implement an idea generation, validation and experimentation process to foster and deploy novel online initiatives at UWG. Director will also measure traction of new ideas, communicate UWG’s progress in solving online challenges, create templates to be used for new programs, create success measurement devices, and represent UWG at events and councils and to external and internal constituents.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree; Proven project management skills; supervisory experience; experience working in a higher education environment, training, or online teaching is also required. Experience as an online student will also be considered. Quality Matters certification (or comparable), data collection, and assessment experience is required. Broad-based knowledge and skill in operating a variety of software applications used in multimedia, courseware development, Learning Management Systems, and SCTBanner or similar systems is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, media, business, management, or related subject; experience working specifically with the Desire2Learn learning management system.


$58,548 minimum - $83,856 midpoint

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Normal office environment with long periods of sitting at times.
