Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities & Events Management oversees the UNCW Athletics Facilities and Event operations for a Division I program with 19 varsity sports. Will provide direction and coordination of strategic planning and development of a dynamic facilities master plan; present the annual budget plan for facility projects and ensure budget adherence; serve as primary Facilities & Events liaison to UNCW Facilities, EH&S, Campus Police, Parking and Auxiliary Services; oversee and coordinate branding efforts and initiatives; and be responsible for the maintenance of the policy and procedures manual for Facilities and Event Management.

Will direct and lead the Facilities & Event Management teams; oversee the planning, coordination, and management of championships, competitions, events or functions; oversee, monitor and evaluate operations of all Athletics facilities; manage the master schedule for all internal and external events and ensure all athletics facilities are scheduled and operated in support of division goals and strategic plans.

Maintain, update, and communicate athletic facilities emergency plans. Oversee construction/renovation projects including strategically developing and defining the scope of work required, identify issues and propose solutions for both long-term and short-term improvement.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in general facilities work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:

Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of event and facility planning, including event design, project management, facility maintenance, and grounds and turf maintenance

Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and mentor employees

Excellent organization skills, including exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple competing tasks and demands

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to represent the Department of Athletics and the university in an exemplary and professional manner

Proven ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and creative manner

Ability to gather and analyze information and make workable recommendations in a timely manner

Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, as well as specialized scheduling software and graphics software

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations with practical, hands-on experience in applying the regulations

Preferred education, professional skills and experience:

Bachelor’s degree and five years of progressive administrative and facility management experience in athletics and/or higher education setting along with 4 years of supervisory experience
