The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia's School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) seeks candidates for a Research Associate position to work in the Soft Biomatter Laboratory in the area of 3D printable soft materials. Primary duties include the design, synthesis, characterization, and 3D printing of soft polymers and explore their applications in stretchable electronics, tissue engineering, and soft robotics. The appointment will be for one year, renewable pending satisfactory performance and funding.
Responsibilities include developing 3D printable soft polymers; managing laboratory facilities, perform measurements, update equipment, develop procedures for operation & safety and assist in drafting proposals, reports, and research papers.
A PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field is required by the time of hire. Strong technical aptitude and working knowledge of chemistry, materials science, and bioengineering is required. Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain accurate lab records is required.
