The Princeton University Art Museum, one of the nation's preeminent cultural institutions in an academic setting, seeks applications for Art Museum Store Staff. Formally established in 1882, its collections feature over 100,000 works of art ranging from ancient to contemporary art and spanning the globe. Its collections of Chinese painting, the art of the ancient Americas, and photography are widely regarded as being among the world's richest. We have immediate openings for part-time Art Museum Store staff.
Primary function is to professionally greet and assist all visitors when they enter the Museum Store, and enable them to make their purchases at the register.
Flexible work schedule required which will include hours on Saturdays, Sundays and some evenings. Shifts for key busy periods including holidays are also required. Approximately 15 - 24 hours per week would be available.
- Retail experience required.
- This position requires interacting directly with the public in a composed museum setting, and requires learning about the handmade artisan merchandise in the store.
- Experience in Windows based computer registers is required as operating POS (point of sale) register system necessary.
- Must be able to routinely lift 30 lb cartons of books or merchandise.
- Continuous learning about current exhibitions, lectures and special events, as well as museum collections are part of this position.
- Will be trained in all Store related systems, as well as security and emergency preparedness procedures. References will be checked, and a background check is required. This is not a seasonal or short term student position. No phone calls please.
