Lead and provide oversight of services in the Graduate School Counseling program as the clinical coordinator for placement of masters and doctoral students in internships, practicums, and clinical experiences. Serve as the primary contact for finding, developing and placing students in clinical mental health counseling, pastoral clinical mental health counseling, and school counseling sites. Reviews and updates procedures consistent with national level policies and accreditation boards. Provides licensing documentation verification and other Counseling Department services and related efforts as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, or pastoral clinical mental health counseling. 1 to 3 years of related experience. Knowledge of the counseling field and specific requirements from CACREP .

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience as a clinical mental health counselor. LPC , LGPC

This position requires ability to know and understand the wide range of clinical mental health professions and counselors. Having experience in the field is important as well as having the ability to communicate and advocate for this specific profession. A large amount of time is spent working with students to help them become confident in their search for a site.

Responsibility / Duty

Maintains written Policy and Procedure for the program consistent with department and outside policies. Assesses and manages clinical experience program. Coordinates with students to develop and prepare them for their internship and clinical experience.

Responsibility / Duty

Coordinates with sites to insure they meet requirements for the program. Develops agreements and written contracts between the University and the site. Maintains students and site records.

Responsibility / Duty

Serves as personal representative of Marymount University to foster relationships with local school systems and mental health agencies. Provides training sessions for students and meets with them to insure they are qualified for their clinical experience. Maintains a system to insure they find and care enrolled in a site well in advance of the start date of their class.

Responsibility / Duty

Refers students to organizations using a variety of referral systems; informs students on available internship opportunities and assists them in acquiring internships appropriate to their career goals through fixed and drop-in appointment hours. Makes presentations to students and classes. If any major issues arise with students, notifies the program contact person, University supervisor, and department chair (if necessary).

Researches resources for students and develops sites in the community to broaden possible site settings. Prepares, revises, and compiles internship databases for clinical placements and sites.

Assists the department in other duties as needed. Coordinates with staff and faculty. Represents the Counseling Department at student orientation/open house functions (when needed); participates in brochure, information, and training manual development; writes articles for newsletters and text for reports; generates letters of appreciation and gifts for on-site supervisors.

Manage the application process for National Counseling Exam and CPCE and maintain associated paperwork and records.

Responsibility / Duty

Maintains liaison with outside counseling agencies and the national accreditation board and facilitates changes and updates. Validates License/Hours verification forms for state requirements. Reviews and revises counseling handbooks (in coordination with Chair and faculty) to insure accuracy of information.

Conduct on site visits. Consult with site clinical supervisors to ensure University and program requirements are met and students are maintaining their responsibilities.
